About Kate

Moving cross-country a few years ago marked a turning point in my professional life. While attending a webinar for unemployed or underemployed military spouses, a panelist suggested exploring hobbies and interests for career inspiration. That advice sparked a memory of my childhood love for libraries—where discovery and learning were magical—and led me to search for librarian jobs. Realizing this path aligned perfectly with my passions, I decided to pursue a Master’s in Library and Information Science.

Growing up going to the library was my favorite part of the week, whether in school or community library. Mrs. Pettis, my elementary school librarian, always knew exactly what book I should read next, and I devoured every single one. Discovering new books fueled my interest in learning. To this day, I find joy in discovering new things and sharing them with others. “Did you know . . . “ often begins many of my conversations.

When I mentioned to my family and coworkers my plan to apply for a Masters of Library and Information Science program, everyone’s reaction was the same - “that is perfect for you!” In my top 5 StrengthsFinders, my second strength is Input which is defined as gathering, organizing, and sharing data and someone who is inquisitive with a constant need to learn more. I have been known to say “I wonder . . .” before exploring a rabbit hole of information.

In today’s world, where information is everywhere yet often unreliable, ensuring equitable access and teaching information literacy are more critical than ever. I’m excited about the opportunity to combine my BA in English Language and Literature with my passion for community engagement to make a meaningful impact. Helping people find reliable information and empowering them to make informed decisions is a dream that feels within reach.

This journey has already been transformative, and I’m eager to continue learning and growing, both personally and professionally, as I work toward a career that blends curiosity, service, and impact.

Let's keep the story going! Every good library needs a few new chapters, and every good network needs a librarian.

Fun Facts about Kate

  • I bounce around the US with my husband, toddler daughter, and two rescue dogs every few years. As much fun as it is to live in different places, I’m ready to firmly plant roots within the next several years.

  • I love to rewatch television shows and movies. It’s like putting on a comfy sweatshirt for me.

  • I without a doubt belong in Hufflepuff house. I don’t even know why I took the quiz! Ha!

  • I am a water baby: I need to drink it to be happy, I find peace and calm near water, and I listen to rain storms when I’m working to help keep me focused.

  • Motherhood is the best and hardest thing I’ve ever done. I found out I was pregnant right before I started my master’s program and my daughter was with me for every live class. So, we basically got two degrees for the price of one, right?? 🙂
