Rooted in Curiosity: Meet Kate

Curiosity has shaped nearly every chapter of my life.

I’ve always been someone who asks a question and then quietly disappears down a research rabbit hole looking for the answer. Long before I knew terms like information literacy or digital librarianship, I was drawn to exploring, organizing, and making sense of the world around me.

Eventually, that curiosity grew into a career centered on information, research, and helping people navigate an increasingly complicated digital landscape.

Today, my work centers on helping people find, evaluate, organize, and better understand information. I’m especially interested in how digital librarianship, information literacy, research, and public education can help people become more thoughtful, responsible consumers of information.

As a Digital Librarian at LUNASHARK Media, I work with digital collections connected to investigative journalism and true crime reporting. I organize case materials, maintain searchable archives, develop educational resources, and build systems that make complicated information easier to find and understand.

I earned my Master’s in Library & Information Science from Syracuse University’s School of Information Studies, where my work explored digital libraries, accessibility, knowledge organization, research methods, and information literacy.

Beyond librarianship, I’m interested in media literacy, digital trust, curiosity-driven learning, and the changing relationship between people and information. In a world crowded with content, algorithms, and constant noise, I believe curiosity is more than a personality trait. It’s a practical skill.

Whether I’m organizing a digital collection, building an educational resource, or falling into an unexpected research spiral, the goal is the same: make information more approachable, meaningful, and useful.

A few things I believe:

Curiosity is a skill.

Not just a personality trait.

Good information should be understandable.

Not intimidating.

Organization matters.

Information is only useful if people can actually find and use it.

Fun Facts about Kate

  • I treat bookstores, libraries, and office supply stores with the same level of excitement most people reserve for concerts or sporting events.

  • I’m a chronic rewatcher of TV shows and movies. Something familiar feels a little like putting on a comfy sweatshirt.

  • Every personality quiz eventually reaches the same conclusion: I absolutely belong in Hufflepuff.

  • I’m happiest near water. Lakes, oceans, rainy days… something about water makes my brain slow down.

  • My daughter has taught me that “why?” is both a phase of childhood and a surprisingly effective research strategy.
